Jean Paul Gaultier Launches Baby Collection
Looks like the original ‘enfant terrible’ of couture is taking that first word to heart. Going one up on the much-buzzed-about children’s collection from Gucci, Jean Paul Gaultier is introducing Gaultier Bebe, a collection for newborns and children up to two years old. This range will be shown alongside Junior Gaultier, the designer’s childrenswear collection for children ages 2 to 16 that was launched for autumn. The notion of a children’s collection coming from the designer that immortalized the cone bra is unsettling, but while inspiration will surely be found in the archives, the execution will be limited to referencing iconic nautical themes, tartan, and classic tailoring. Gaultier Bebe will feature knitted dungarees, sailor shirts, and bodysuits in shades of red, white, and blue. The pieces start at just under $100 and go on sale this month. |
